A big screen makes party games much better. Here is how to connect a laptop to a TV, go fullscreen and arrange a keyboard so up to seven people can play.
Party games are better on a big screen. Everyone can see what is going on, and the room feels like a game night rather than a group huddled around a laptop. Here is a simple setup that takes about five minutes.
What you need
- A laptop or desktop with a physical keyboard
- A TV or monitor with an HDMI input
- An HDMI cable (or a USB-C to HDMI adapter)
- Optional: a second, full-size keyboard for the seventh player
Step by step
- Connect the cable. Plug HDMI into the laptop and the TV, then select that HDMI input on the TV.
- Extend or mirror the display. On Windows press Windows + P and choose Duplicate. On a Mac, open System Settings, then Displays, and choose to mirror your display.
- Open 7playergames.com in your browser and press F11 (Windows) or use the green fullscreen button (Mac) to hide the toolbar.
- Raise the sound. HDMI usually carries audio, so set the TV as the sound output if the music is still coming from the laptop.
- Click once inside the game so the browser sends key presses to it.
Where to put the keyboard
The key layout for seven players is spread across the keyboard: C, N, P, Q, the Left and Right arrows and Numpad 0. Put the keyboard on a low table or a stool in the middle of the group, not on someone’s lap, so every player can reach their key comfortably. A wireless keyboard is ideal for this; just check that it is a full-size model if you want Pink (Numpad 0) to join in.
Troubleshooting
- Black screen on the TV: try another HDMI input or press Windows + P again.
- Game looks too small: the game keeps a 16:9 shape, which matches most TVs. Go fullscreen.
- Some keys are ignored: read about keyboard ghosting.
When everything is set up, start a game and enjoy.
